A report related to the application of a GW4 magnetic fuel conditioner on a Landrover Discovery at Ladymead, Guilford, Surrey

Summary

At the request of Alastair Hornby, Building Services Controller at Ladymead, Guilford, a GW4 magnetic fuel conditioner was supplied to be fitted onto the primary fuel supply pipe of a Landrover Discovery, 2.7L, V6, diesel in April 2009.

The purpose of the trial was to provide an example of the potential for fuel savings and emissions reduction throughout the Allianz fleet of vehicles. Fuel consumption was monitored for 4 weeks prior to fitting the fuel conditioner and another four weeks after fitting, using the vehicle's on-board equipment. The results from the trial show an overall reduction in fuel consumption of 17.2% between the two periods.

Financial Benefits

As an example (based on a weekly mileage figure of 200 miles; a 48 week year; and diesel at £1.10 per litre), a 17.2% reduction in fuel consumption would result in a financial saving of £360 per annum on fuel used by this vehicle.

Environmental Benefits

Using again the 200 miles per week figure, consumption of diesel by this vehicle would reduce from 8.333 gallons (37.9 litres) to 6.9 gallons (31.4 litres) per week. This is a reduction of 6.5 litres of fuel and therefore 17.42 kgs of CO2 per week. Over a 48 week year this would equate to reductions of 312 litres of fuel and 836.16 kgs of CO2. There is usually also a significant reduction in diesel particulates in the remaining remissions. This feature should be checked out on this particular vehicle in the coming weeks.
